Ranked choice voting (RCV), also known as instant-runoff voting, is an electoral system in which voters rank candidates in order of preference. In a traditional election, voters choose only one candidate, and the candidate with the most votes wins. However, in ranked choice voting, voters rank multiple candidates according to their preference, typically using numbers (1 for first choice, 2 for second choice, and so on). Here's how ranked choice voting works: Ranking Candidates: Voters rank their preferred candidates in the order they like them. They can rank as many or as few candidates as they wish. Counting the First Choices: In the initial count, only the first-choice votes are tallied. If a candidate receives an outright majority (more than 50% of the votes), they win.
